The Florida International University's motto is "Be Worlds Ahead" and to me that means being determined and innovative while tackling your goals. I believe global awareness is very important; society should not be closed minded about other cultures or issues that are happening around the world. Participating in the Global Medallion Program gave me the opportunity to enhance my global perspective, global awareness, and global engagement. Enrolling in global learning courses taught me about how different topics are understood around the world. Many actions, traditions, and ways of communication differ amongst regions and countries but all can effect the world as a whole. By attending and volunteering for global awareness activities, I was able to take what I learned in the classroom and utilize it outside of the classroom. These activities also opened my eyes to many issues that are being faced around the world today that may be not as well known, it is all about getting the word out. My international exchange was the most moving and life changing part of my Global Medallion Program experience. Living in another country for five months gave me a new perspective on another culture. I had the opportunity to engage and build relationships with native Australians. Taking part in the Global Medallion Program not only put me in the right direction towards achieving my career goals, but it gave me my first step into seeing the world. I consider this giving me what I needed to start a new chapter.
