In the spring of 2017, I chose to participate in the International Student Exchange program and study for five months in Melbourne, Australia. Melbourne is the special events hub of Australia and one of its most populated cities. Therefore, I couldn't have found a more perfect place to study my major, Event Management. I attended Victoria University, an FIU partnered school that is amongst the top 4% of universities worldwide. There I took four courses that dove deep into how the events industry functions throughout Australia. Being able to observe the wide variety of events Melbourne had to offer, I was able to experience first hand the events industry from another country's perspective. This opened my eyes to what seemed like another side of Event Management. I also had the opportunity to travel throughout the eastern side of Australia to Queensland, Tasmania, and New South Wales. During the duration of my exchange in Australia, I was able to take part in many traditional Australian customs, such as surfing on the famous Bells Beach, scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef and watching an Australian Rules Football game. Visiting Australia was definitely a life changing experience and became my first step into exploring more parts of the world and all the cultures it has to offer.
